...well, that there ^^^ is a not-half-bad example of what I was talking about in reference to language. Symbolic communication [of which language is an example] requires the definition and isolation of particular concepts. These concepts may then be discussed and placed in relation to other concepts [symbols]. ...this is the method by which reality is defined. The data we take in doesn't flow from discrete constructs - we experience a field of input from which we extract pattern and attribute source. This makes the experienced world and the conceptualized world different constructs.
...our intentional action in the world is limited to those patterns which have been codified. Intention must be directed, the arrow must have a target.

...magic is an attempt to transmit information about the world as experience, rather than the world as concept. Because of this intent [and magic is nothing if not a process of intent] magic MUST rely on layers of meaning and symbolic referent to felt reality.
