I would think it obvious, from the context. End- = inside, -optic = eye. Endoptic forms originate inside the eye rather than from the distal environs. CAEP are the patterns which all humans see when entering these states, as a result of how we're visually and cognitively (although there's no hard and fast barrier between these two) constructed.
