Actually, i see this as a good thing. i mean, yeah, they *should* have
known the risk. But tobacco companies for many years -- many many many
years -- have insisted that smoking was harmless. They've commissioned
study after study, and released study after study, demonstrating this.
Only recently has anyone had any massive *proof* -- ie, boxes of memos --
demonstrating that cigarette companies knew all along what they were doing.
I know several people who smoked because they believed tobacco giant
Phillip Morris, and figgured that the non-smokers were just puritanical.
I don't think any company should be allowed to lie on that scale and get
away with it, just because everyone *knows* they're lying anyway. :-)
