Tangential but potentially important correction: Hakeeb wrote

gay except the military." Unfortunately, that's not true: in almost any
job in the US, a person can be fired for his or her sexual orientation.
There are a few exceptions--for example, in New York City, city
employees cannot be fired on those grounds, but anyone working
for a private business can; in San Francisco, it is illegal to discriminate
on the basis of sexual orientation. [That, by the way, applies to any
sexual orientation; at least one heterosexual San Franciscan
successfully sued to get her job back at a lesbian-owned business.]
