The meme of a righteous man pushed too far who has a shoot 'em up showdown with the bad guy bullies goes back at least to Hamlet (with swords rather than guns), but I consider the modern prototype to be the movie "Shane"; I therefore submit that the cognitive complex motivating this schoolhouse virulence be named the Shane Meme.
