Ok, a small point of contention... I see greed as coming from the genes. I
don't argue one bit that there are memes which thrive in that genetically
created environment.

As a former writer and designer for an advertising agency, I can attest to
the fact that greed IS part of our memetic heritage (as well as genetic).
It is a quintessential value of our culture. Self-interest is the keystone
of capitalism. I'll make the claim that we have progressed beyond
capitalism to CONSUMERISM. The keystone of consumerism is greed.
