Both. The basic tenets should be illustrated with practical applications
otherwise we risk losing a large segment of our intended audience (the
empiricists, pragmatists, instrumentalists, etc.)

e.g. Tenet: The meaning of your life is the sum total of the effects your
life has from the moment of your conception until the end of time.
Application: Therefore, if you want to have a meaningful life you have to
change the world, communicate, create.
